Each year these distinctively different signature events offer the community, our donors, corporate sponsors, friends, family and volunteers the opportunity to come together to support the Somerset Valley YMCA and increase the impact we have in our neighborhoods.
Strong Kids Kickoff
Please Join Us on February 5, 2013 at our Hillsborough Family YMCA branch at
19 East Mountain Rd. Hillsborough, NJ 08844
As a teenager, Jim Gabrielski played basketball at the Y with his friends. As a father, he brought his sons there. But to Jim, the Y’s mission was never more clear than after Super Storm Sandy.
“A lot of us had damage and lost power. But when I went to check on how the Y had fared, I was amazed to see the doors open. Inside, I saw people supplied with food, shelter, showers, toiletries, towels, power for their laptops and phones – and most importantly, the open arms of lovely Y people ready to assist anyone in need,” he said.
“In all the years, I was fortunate to be a Y member, the sum total of my experience was captured in visits to the Y after the storm: People caring for people.”
To ensure the Y can continue to support the community in times of need, the Somerset Valley YMCA is launching its annual Strong Kids fundraising campaign on Feb. 5 at the Hillsborough Family Y from 7 -8:30 p.m.
Drawing on the idea that one gift can snowball into a community of giving; this year’s fundraising theme is “It Starts with One.” In keeping with the theme, the Hillsborough Family YMCA will transform itself into a Winter Wonderland. All Y members and community members are invited for food, fun and fellowship. Children and families are welcome and are asked to RSVP to erind@ymcasomersetvalley.org.
“The YMCA is here to meet the needs of our community and to make a positive impact on the lives of adults, children, teens and seniors,” said Paul Kieltyka, Chief Executive Officer. “Through our support campaign, we want to educate people that we are a non-profit organization that does vital work, thanks to your donations.”
